Color of the Year
Pantone recently announced its selection for the Color of the Year for 2020 -- Classic Blue, a deep blue thatís the color of the evening sky. This timeless blue has a red undertone and is connected with feelings of tranquility, comfort and reliability, says Laurie Pressman, the vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, which selects and names the Color of the Year. Here are four ways you can incorporate this dependable hue into your country decor:
1. Decorative items. Choose a small vase, accent furnishing or candle to try out this shade of blue. Described as a neutral heritage hue that can span traditional and contemporary looks, it meshes well with a variety of country palettes, from prim to farmhouse and beyond.
2. Textiles. Introduce a woven table runner, window treatments, a cozy throw, a patterned rug or decorative pillows to bring a pop of Classic Blue and added texture into your rooms.
3. Collectibles. Plenty of country collectibles coordinate with this color -- think Blue Willow china, salt-glazed pottery or patriotic-themed goods.
4. Wallcoverings. The deep blue pairs perfectly with Americana decor and offers a crisp complement to white furnishings or collections. If you donít want to paint a large expanse of wall, consider using the color on the interior of a cabinet, on a focal wall, through stencils or wallpaper, or in a small space, such as a powder room. Consider installing a backsplash, wainscoting or trim that features this rich hue.
When integrating Classic Blue into your home, be sure to strike a balance with lighter-colored decor and furnishings so as not to overwhelm spaces with the hue, and add mirrors to help make a small area feel bigger. Pairing Classic Blue with cooler lightbulbs will visually expand a small room.
