In the Red

Painted scarlet for “a punch of color,” Donna says, the door to the carriage house can be accessed from the back deck, where she and her husband, Jeff, often entertain guests.

  • Hat Trick

One of Sheffield, Ontario, homeowner Donna Kish’s most cherished treasures is the slant-top school desk in the living room of her 1867-built farmhouse. Donna delights in adding details to her displays, including the period-appropriate lantern, hat and slate and the little framed silhouettes, many of which she made herself.
  • Bunny Pit

A bowl full of chalkware bunnies nestled in a bed of wood wool bring spring spirit into this tabletop vignette.
  • Laundry Day

Long underwear hung on a clothesline introduce old-fashioned charm to the corner of the laundry room, which is also adorned with antique linens on a drying rack and a vintage sack hung on the wall.
  • Soap Box

A vintage wood crate serves as the perfect host for glass canisters filled with laundry soap and old wood clothespins.
  • On the Side

The side entrance leads into the kitchen and was a newer addition, as evidenced by the stone wall, which was once an exterior wall. Donna likes to showcase some of her wood items here, including pantry boxes and buckets. She found a long shelf rack at an antiques show that just happened to fit the space precisely, with barely a fraction of an inch to spare.
