Agent Orange

Home decor shopowner Christina Zimmerman loves to celebrate fall in her custom-built Junction City, Oregon, home with Halloween- and autumn-themed accents scattered throughout every room. On the living room coffee table, for example, a jack o’ lantern bowl by artist Johanna Parker is filled with bright oranges and accompanied by a delicately painted pumpkin.

Monkeying Around

Four of Christina’s vintage sock monkeys, one of which belonged to Lee’s aunt, crowd onto a single seat in a corner of the dining room. Christina bought the stove 10 years ago for $35 and had all the nickel-plating redone and much of it repainted; the door’s graphics are original, however.

Quilting Bee

Although the rest of the house features a subdued, largely neutral palette, Christina uses the guest bedroom to showcase decor in pastels and bright colors that no longer fits her style. Part of her baby quilt is framed in a place of honor on the wall and complements the other quilts folded on the shelves. Assorted pumpkin-inspired accents continue the Halloween celebration from other rooms.

High and Mighty

A plant shelf extending around the kitchen and over the hallway provides ample display space for a wood footstool, an old barrel and a red wagon draped in a red-and-white quilt. A sign that Christina’s niece made crowns a mustard-colored peg rack and a black dry sink laden with fall fare.

Star of the Show

Inspired by something she saw in a friend’s home, Christina hung a flag holder over the doorway to the living room. “I thought it would be perfect because it’s hard to decorate over arches,” she says. At right, Longaberger baskets pop against a dark cranberry-colored cabinet topped off with reproduction and authentic yellowware.

Banner Year

A vintage-inspired banner featuring triangles trimmed in orange and black dresses up the white fireplace in the living room. At right, a shovel that once belonged to Christina’s father is hung on a star-shaped hook and acts as the perfect space filler between the fireplace and an old white cabinet.

What a Hoot

On the left side of the mantel, white and brown firkins stand tall beside a crock with an owl decoration peeking out. Another owl perches on a black box beside a stacked set of 1950s Lucite-handled suitcases. A team of cutout pumpkins that Christina’s mom made pops against the dark suitcases, and a bat-inspired bowl by Johanna Parker holds Halloween treats.

Give It the Boot

A soft witch accent, a black bottle brush tree and a white pumpkin gather inside an ink box with a season-appropriate black cat embellishment. A pair of black never-been-worn Queen Quality boots stand in as witch’s shoes for the Halloween scene. “They are the narrowest boots,” Christina says. “I don’t know how they had such narrow feet back then! I couldn’t even fit my big toe in there!”

A Softer Side

A black-and-tan quilt, a beautiful hooked rug and a small embroidered pillow offer up soft-sided style in the corner of the living room. Christina believes this white cabinet may have formerly been used for a dartboard, but now it hides away all of her candles beneath a black wall cupboard with a painted door.
